Care Instructions
At Mikal&Co, we are committed to providing you with the highest quality jewellery crafted from 925 sterling silver, 316L Stainless Steel and other resistant materials generally making every piece waterproof, non-tarnish and long lasting if their surfaces are not compromised.
To ensure that your precious pieces retain their beauty and last, please follow these care instructions:
1. Combat Tarnishing: Over time, silver binds to sulphur in the air which creates Silver Sulphide resulting in dark marks known as tarnish. Fear not, as your jewellery can easily be restored to its original brilliance. Gently polish your jewellery with a silver cloth, and it will regain its lustre, looking as good as new.
2. Handle with Love & Care: Your Mikal&Co jewellery deserves tender care. Avoid excessive force or impact that may cause damage to the delicate components and cause them to scratch or break.
3. Protect from Substances: To maintain the lustrous appearance of your jewellery, keep it away from perfume, water, fake tan, hand sanitizers, or any cleaning products. These substances can potentially alter the colour or cause tarnishing (note: during testing phase this was only found common once the surface has been scratched or compromised by wear and tear).
4. Gold-Filled Beads: Some of our product’s state that they are made of "gold-filled beads" instead of gold-plated beads. Our gold-filled beads are designed to resist fading better than gold plated beads, if cared for properly. Ensure their lasting beauty by treating them with care and avoiding exposure to harsh chemicals or abrasive materials.
5. Gold Plated Charms and Mikal&Co Tags: Please note that our gold charms and gold Sue Sensi tags are sterling silver that has been plated with 18kt gold. These plated elements may naturally fade over time, as is characteristic of gold-plated jewellery. To maintain their appearance, gently clean them after each wear using a silver cloth.
6. Remove your jewellery before bathing: Although many products are waterproof, Soaps or body products used whilst showering or cleaning can cause a film to form, making your jewellery appear dull. Avoid this by always removing your jewellery before taking a shower or going for a swim.
7. Use jewellery polishing cloths for best results: It's always best to regularly polish your silver, gold, stainless steel, plated or jewellery in general with the correct polishing cloth. Although it may not be visible immediately, paper towels and tissue can cause scratches because of the fibres in these products. Therefore, cloths made specifically for jewellery are the best way to maintain the sparkle in your precious pieces.
8. Using warm water to clean jewellery: Warm water is great for cleaning jewellery; however, you should be aware that water can cause reactions with some cleaning fluids resulting in discolouration. Sterling Silver is especially susceptible to this problem. Should this occur, this problem can be remedied by buffing and using tarnish remover.
9. avoid cleaning damaged jewellery: Never clean any jewellery that is damaged, cracked or broken, because the additional handling will worsen the problem. If you find that a piece of jewellery is damaged, it should be set aside for repair as soon as possible.
10. inspect your jewellery regularly: When having your jewellery professionally cleaned, it's a good idea to have each item checked and inspected for any possible problems. Addressing signs of damage, or loose gemstones will prevent any further damage or loss, keeping all of your pieces in excellent shape for years.
